As the director of operations and quality, you will oversee the daily operations of groundskeeping and housekeeping. You will develop and implement a campus quality control program while managing the work order system's efficient operation, timely response, and cost tracking. You will create a long-term strategic plan that aligns with organizational goals, implement sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives, and assess facilities for recommended improvements to operations and infrastructure. Your other duties will include coordinating with the director of maintenance, director of capital projects, and maintenance to minimize disruption to operations and collaborating with physical resources to plan and complete significant initiatives.

In this position, you will take the lead in hiring, training, and managing a team of facility workers. You will complete performance evaluations, provide mentorship and professional development opportunities, and foster a positive, collaborative, and efficient work environment. You will also oversee pest control and waste management while maintaining fleet vehicles by ensuring all vehicles and their drivers comply with state and local requirements. Additionally, you will maintain access and critical control by supervising the lock and key department.

You will develop and implement facility management policies and procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Likewise, you will develop and enforce an emergency response plan and complete regular inspections and audits to ensure facilities are safe and adhere to environmental standards. You will maintain all building fire systems, EPA compliances related to handling and disposing of hazardous materials, and careful record-keeping.

In this role, you will be the primary contact for facility-related issues and communications, collaborating with internal departments to understand and address needs. You will prepare and present reports on facility performances and initiatives to management. You will also prepare and manage facility budgets, forecasts and capital expenditures, and monitor and control costs throughout the year. As part of your efforts to control costs, you will negotiate contracts and manage relationships with vendors/service providers.

The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and contract negotiation. You will also have a strong knowledge of facility management principles, best practices, safety regulations, and compliance requirements. Excellent leadership, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal and team management skills are necessary to succeed in this position.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in facilities management or a related field, including experience in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of facility management principles and best practices
  • Proficient in budgeting, financial management, and contract negotiation
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, business administration, or a related field

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or a Facility Management Professional (FMP) are preferred

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
