Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university’s research enterprise, and we are looking for a faculty librarian to serve as a STEM Librarian. Reporting to the Coordinator of Liaison Services, the STEM Librarian will engage with faculty, researchers, and students in assigned STEM academic and research programs to identify current and emerging user needs and to deliver responsive and innovative research and instructional services. All liaisons are responsible for meeting the following core competencies:
  • Outreach & Engagement: Build connections to identify partners and facilitate community in assigned areas.
  • Research Services: Expand knowledge of research methods to support users in navigating the research process.
  • Scholarly Communications: Promote and advise on the process of creating, sharing, and evaluating academic research and knowledge.
  • Teaching & Learning: Design and implement pedagogically appropriate instruction utilizing a variety of different instructional methods.

The position collaborates with a team of STEM library liaisons to provide library services to programs across the STEM disciplines, as well as library liaisons in other disciplines to identify user needs and provide support for interdisciplinary research and teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as primary liaison to and actively develops professional relationships with faculty, researchers, and students in assigned STEM disciplines.
  • Provides in-depth, specialized research consultations and group instruction for STEM students, faculty, and visiting scholars. Research services may include advanced literature review methodology, citation management software support, and other current needs.
  • Plans and implements library instruction for STEM disciplines, which may include curricular support, course-based information literacy, and workshop development.
  • Collaborates on active library-wide outreach program promoting library services and resources.
  • Identifies current and emerging user needs to inform new or existing library programs, programming, services, and partnerships.
  • Contributes to the advancement of University of Kentucky Libraries’ programs for scholarly communication, open educational resources (OERs), open access (OA), data management and other library initiatives.
  • Participates in committees, working groups, and shared leadership opportunities.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and completes multiple projects across duties and responsibilities.

As a member of the UKL faculty, this position participates in planning, shared governance, and UK Libraries-wide faculty activities. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure eligible position in the Librarian Title Series (open rank) which requires scholarship, professional development, and service that contributes to the effectiveness of UK Libraries, the university, and the profession as outlined in Administrative Regulation 2:7 (https://www.uky.edu/regs/ar2-7). Your Distribution of Effort (DOE) range: Primary assignment: 70-80%, Service/Prof. development and scholarship 20-30% and is reviewed at minimum annually each year. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The minimum salary for a Librarian IV is $57,000 and for a Librarian III is $62,500.
