Open Rank in Physical Therapy and Movement Sciences

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Health Sciences invites nominations and applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor (non-tenure track) position in the Department of Physical Therapy and Movement Sciences (DPT&MS). This is a 12-month (9-month plus 3-month) appointment in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The successful applicants must be U.S. licensed physical therapist with a clinical doctorate in physical therapy or academic doctorate in physical therapy or a related field, and have expertise in one or more of the following clinical fields: Orthopedics, Geriatrics, Cardiopulmonary, Oncology, Pediatrics, or Gender Health. Job responsibilities will be approximately 60-70% teaching, with the remaining workload split among clinical practice in a pro-bono clinic, some scholarly activity (e.g., grant writing, manuscript submissions, and conference presentations), and service to the program, college, university, community, and profession. Anticipated appointment date is negotiable but not later than Fall 2025. The ideal candidate will have a clinical specialization, a passion for supervising students in clinical and research activities, excel at incorporating active-learning strategies in teaching, thrive in a bi-national setting, embrace the opportunities to work with underserved groups, and flourish in an independent work environment.

This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to join a strong DPT program and a cohesive faculty team. Multiple research/scholarly opportunities are available in community and clinical settings on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Prior academic experience and current scholarship/research will determine appointments at the Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor level.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) ABPTS clinical specialization; (2) academic doctorate; (3) teaching experience in a DPT program; (4) record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at peer-reviewed conferences, and/or past/present external funding for research/scholarly activities; (5) record of leadership role(s) in physical therapy; (6) current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association; and/or (7) advanced proficiency in Spanish.
