Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Earth Resources

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in Earth Resources, beginning fall 2025. We are seeking highly collaborative applicants with expertise in mineral resources, energy geology, production and sourcing of critical minerals, geothermal energy, and earth science-focused sustainability. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience and a research focus on earth resources to assist in the transition to a more diverse energy portfolio. Applicants should enhance the core strengths of our Department in areas such as economic geology, geochemistry, Earth system science, human-environment interactions, land use/land cover change, hydrology, geophysics, field geology, isotope geoscience, tectonics, and planetary science. Candidates are encouraged to develop contacts and partnerships with industry and organizations involved in the energy transition.

The successful candidate will be expected to attract research funding from external sources. Teaching may include an introductory course in Earth Science or Environmental Science and upper division and/or graduate classes in topics of their choice agreed upon with the Department Chair. In addition to advising M.S. and Ph.D. students from the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Resource Sciences, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the interdisciplinary Environmental Science undergraduate and doctoral programs. Rank and salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Job Requirements:
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences is hiring a faculty member in the broadly-defined area of Earth Resources who is capable of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting and establishing an extramurally funded and active research portfolio, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring students at all levels. A Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field at the time of appointment is required.

QUALIFICATIONS WITHIN EACH RANK

In addition to the required qualifications delineated above, minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor include excellence in teaching and/or talent development, a history of external funding and quality publications in refereed academic journals, and a clear contribution to the discipline. Additional minimal qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor include demonstrating that the applicant is a mature scholar in their discipline, evidenced by external funding and publication of significant scholarly works at the same frequency as those holding the professorial rank at similar academic institutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will have postdoctoral research experience, track record of peer-reviewed publications, previously secured research funding, collaborations and/or experience working with industry, and teaching experience is desirable.
