Assistant Professor of Instruction in Dance

The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, renewable position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Dance, beginning Fall 2025. The department is interested in a dynamic dance practitioner qualified to teach undergraduates different dance styles and forms and choreograph annual dance shows. As an Assistant Professor of Instruction, the selected candidate is expected to mentor students, and to be an active member of the department, serving in committees and collaborating with other units at the University, especially during special events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching a variety of dance classes from introductory to advanced levels, in the areas of contemporary and modern dance, Latine and/or Africana forms, dance pedagogy, critical dance studies, choreography and composition.
  • Teaching up to 4 classes per semester.
  • Mentoring students in academic, creative, and career planning.
  • Demonstrating excellence in teaching and advancing pedagogical standards.
  • Collaborating with all design and technical areas in the process of choreographing and organizing productions.
  • Contributing to the values, vision, and mission of the Dance Program, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the University as a whole.
  • Performing service duties including student recruitment, curricular assessment and revision, season selection, departmental representation, etc.


Job Requirements:
  • MFA or PhD in Dance or in a related field with extensive dance focus.
  • Minimum three years of teaching in the field of dance in Higher Education.
  • Documented professional experience as a choreographer and performer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience in recruitment, serving on committees, and contributing to departmental service in Higher Education.


Additional Information:
Salary: $50,000-$56,000 for a nine-month appointment, dependent on qualifications and experience. The initial salary is competitive, based on qualifications and experience, and comes with excellent fringe benefits.

Hiring decisions are based on budget approval.
